Going For Gold at L&G
Sunday 14th February saw the Spelthorne junior elite gymnasts heading to Camberley as L&G hosted an acrobatic competition.
Despite the fact that the England v Italy rugby match was on and that it was also Valentine’s Day, there was plenty of support for the Spelthorne gymnasts as they competed once again.
Morning session
Charlie & Filicia - G2mxp
Charlie & Filicia took to the floor with big smiles and performed their entertaining routine to a packed house. The beginning of the routine was fantastic but they made a couple of slight 'wobbles' towards the end. We held our breath and were delighted when they still managed to scoop the Gold. Well done you two!
Conor & Adam - G2mp
Conor and Adam produced another fun and energetic routine. Despite being the only ones in their category, they didn't take anything for granted and put everything into their moves and presentation. Everyone thought they deserved the Gold medal they were awarded with.
Hayley, Bethany and Georgia - G2wg
The trio entertained the crowded venue with their catchy music and polished choreography. This trio are always up against stiff competition and knew they had to produce a perfect routine to get Gold. Their fantastic effort was well rewarded when they received their Gold medal!
Megan, Gabriella & Eleanor - G1wg
This trio produced a clean, enjoyable and cheeky routine. They were up against 9 other trios so they knew they had to pull out all the stops. Everyone cheered when they made it to the podium to collect their bronze medals and we know there will be more medals to come their way in the future. Well done girls!
Hollie & Lauren - G2wp
Hollie and Lauren came on and executed a clean, elegant routine. This time they were only up against six other pairs so they knew they had a good chance at a medal, but didn't take anything for granted. They smiled beautifully all the way through and were well rewarded with a silver medal for their efforts. Congratulations girls!
Julie, Emma & Savannah - G1wg
This trio really had a challenge today. Not only were they competing against 8 other grade one women's groups, but they were also up against their Spelthorne team mates. Unfortunately for the girls there was a technical hitch with the music half way through. Despite being relatively new to competing at this level, they carried on regardless and with the crowd clapping completed their routine without any music to a huge round of applause. They didn't make it to the podium this time, but everyone was really proud of the way they coped. Well done girls
Afternoon Session
Chelsea, Charlotte & Zoe - G3 wg
First up for Spelthorne for the afternoon session, were Chelsea, Charlotte and Zoe, our Grade 3 trio. Producing a beautiful, flawless tempo routine, it was obvious that they enjoyed being out on the floor. Later in the afternoon they performed their balance routine which although was not quite as polished as at previous competitions, still gave them the edge over other competitors and they too took home another gold medal. Well done.
Rhys & Christian - G1 mp
An hour later saw our Grade 1 Men’s Pair, Rhys and Christian complete their catchy and fun routine which gave them a place on the podium in gold medal position. Well done boys.
Hannah & Oliver - G1 mxp
Our Grade 1 Mixed Pair, Hannah and Oliver, a familiar sight in their eye catching outfits, gave another brilliant performance for Spelthorne. A well deserved gold – congratulations.
Adam and Kate, the Junior Elite coaches are now preparing the pairs and groups for the National Qualifiers which takes place next month in Sittingbourne. Good luck everyone.
