2010 British Championships - results

The senior team were away competing at the 2010 British Championships and for some it was potentially their last British Championships, but for many it was their first.

The event was different this year with no tumbling championships and therefore a new look to the lay-out of the Fenton Manor Arena which created a more intimate feel. However the results were to prove familiar with 6 National Championship titles won from the 15 available.

The final results were:

Seniors
Gold (British Champions) - Nick illingworth & Katie Axten (Snr Mixed Pairs)
Gold (British Champions) - Doug Fordyce & Ed Upcott (Snr Mens Pairs)
Gold (British Champions) - Adam McAssey, Adam Buckingham, Alex Uttley & Jonathan Stranks (Snr Mens Groups)
Silver - Jenny Miller, Emma Walters & Katie Smith (Snr Womens Pairs)

Juniors
Gold (British Champions) - Chris Cranfield & Kim Hunter (Jnr Mixed Pairs)
4th - Chris Longley & Alice Upcott (Jnr Mixed Pairs)
Silver - Leighanne Cowler, Lauren Kemp & Hollianne Wood (Jnr Womens Groups)
Bronze - Laura Burgen, Elise Matthews & Anne-Marie Seabourne (Jnr Womens Groups)
Silver - Chris Rogers & Gareth Wood (Jnr Mens Pairs)
Silver - Allana Baker & Sophie Bigmore (Jnr Womens Pairs)

11-16's
Gold (British Champions) - Georgia Lancaster & Megan Garragher (11-16 Womens Pairs)
7th - Abigail Ralph & Amy Mackenzie (11-16 Womens Pairs)
Silver - Lewis Watts & Luke Sewell (11-16 Mens Pairs)
Gold (British Champions) - Daniel Tognelli, Nick Cowler, Harry Sewell & George Wood (11-16's Mens Groups)

Kieran Baker & Kika Green competed as guests in the 11-16 Mixed Pairs section due to being out of age to be included in the medals. This was their first event together although Kieran is quite experienced from his Junior Mens Pairs days. They completed two very clean routines and should be pleased with this debut performance which hopefully leads to future success.

Congratulations to all our new National Champions and medal winners who have maintained the high standards created over the years at this event. Commiserations to Abi & Amy who suffered a fall in their final routine and to Chris and Alice who were stepping up to Junior level for the first time after all their success at 11-16.

The focus now changes to the World Championship trials in 3 weeks time when, hopefully, all of these gymnasts get a chance to earn selection for the GB team competing in Poland in July.

A full report and pictures from the Championships will appear on this website later in the week.
