Badge Schemes
You might not be aware, but we are actively tracking our gymnasts’ progress through our unique Spelthorne Badge Programme.
Our expert coaching staff has developed specialised badge programs designed for pre-school, General, Intermediate & Advanced levels.
Badge testing for preschool gymnasts takes place three times a year during Autumn, Spring and Summer.
The Spelthorne Pre-school Gymnastics Award scheme is developed for children from 3 years old who will be starting school that year, and focuses on the development of physical literacy and movement skills. Children learn the three fundamental building blocks of movement – Action, Balance and Coordination, with a range of 40 different activities to choose from. The scheme introduces children to physical activity in a fun yet structured environment so that they can safely learn and experiment with action, balance and coordination activities.
Below, you can find a list of all the skills included in our Pre-school badge testing scheme.
Our Spelthorne Gymnastics Badge Scheme for General, Intermediate and Advanced starts at grade 1 (beginner) to grade 8 (advanced). It covers 8 categories for the gymnasts to work towards;
- Flexibility
- Stands balances and posture
- Floor skills
- Tumble skills
- Springboard/Trampette
- Vault
- Trampoline skills
- Conditioning
To pass a badge from the Spelthorne Gymnastics badge scheme the gymnasts need to pass at least 20 items out of approx. 30 required skills (depending on which badge they are on). The gymnasts work on the badge scheme all year round, so when they get tested annually (around February) they will have a good skill set behind them.
The badge testing spans approximately one month. Upon completion, you will receive an email inviting you to purchase the badge. After that, we welcome you to our “parent viewing” session in the gym. This is your chance to see your gymnast in action, and at the end of the class, we will honour their accomplishments by presenting the well-earned badges.
