Gymnastics and sport in general can play a huge role in helping not only physical wellbeing but mental wellbeing too.

For many people, gymnastics
The physical benefits of the sport are often talked about, but for World Mental Health Day (10th October), we’re taking a look at three of the key benefits of taking part in gymnastics for a person’s mental wellbeing.
Whether the journey starts through organised preschool and recreational sessions at a local club or later in life, it is a sport that can provide so many positive moments.
Learning something new helps to boost confidence
In gymnastics, there’s always something new to learn, which is great for encouraging further progression and boosting confidence. That feeling when you master a skill, regardless of how big or small, can help to increase self-esteem. It is empowering, and it’s a big reason why so many people take part in gymnastics today.
Creating positive relationships
As well as learning new skills, going to regular gymnastics sessions encourages all ages of gymnasts to interact and become more sociable. It’s a sport that encourages people to be creative alongside developing those positive relationships with others. Coaches help to foster this by being encouraging and rewarding. You’ll often hear gymnasts at competitions cheering each other on. It’s this comradery that helps to make our sport so inclusive.
Exercise releases positive endorphins
When you take part in gymnastics or any sport for that matter, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. These also help to trigger a positive feeling in the body, which can have a positive impact on your happiness and mental wellbeing. This can help to combat feelings of anxiety and depression.
