December, December, one to remember.

It is almost time to look back on 2018 and what a fab year it has been, but first let’s start with December.

The displays back in January seemed so far away, but crept upon us all too quickly. It is a very fun and festive time in the gym, but also a very busy time, with a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes. Our coaches, staff and volunteers spend months preparing for the shows and making them bigger and better each year. Creating routines, the creativity for props and costumes, then the work from the admin team and fundraising team for the details that are also important to making everything perfect. But is was all worth it!
This year we had more displays than ever, spread across four days, our seven shows were bigger and better than ever. Once more we had our gymnasts from tots to elite wowing the crowds with their new routines and skills. New partnerships, new routines, new gymnasts and coaches adding to the overall WOW effect. And yes it was WOW, with so much positive feedback on the performance level we could not be more proud of our club. Gymnasts although exhausted from all seven shows, continued smiling from start to end, a great result for the audience and parents alike… (what better way than seven consecutive shows to get their gymnasts to go to bed early- that definitely made everyone sleep well).

One reason why we put on these shows each year and are proud to do so, is to showcase what can be achieved from hard work, determination and perseverance. Starting from recreational and ending up with World Champions and International Medallists, now that is a story to tell … and makes for one hell of a show. Our elite gymnasts, who once started out as recreational gymnasts, now acting as role models for the growing number of gymnasts that sign up to Spelthorne, be it for exercise, enjoyment or to achieve at a higher level.

Our general gymnastic classes make up the majority of the club, their displays each year showing new skills, flexibility and using various equipment, make for one joyful performance for the audience. Christmas routines help to bring the festive feeling to the gymnasts. For those who do not compete, it gives them the chance to show off and be the star of the show.. performing what they have been working hard on for many months. The choreography by our amazing coaches also helped to show off the talent of our wonderful gymnasts… routines we are left wanting to watch over and over.
Our elite gymnasts also brought new routines to the displays, “the show must go on” by our junior elite and “circus” performed by our senior elite. Captivating choreography leaving the audience speechless, a performance level one could only expect from a “west end” show. Putting on a show of this level takes a lot of practice, but the feedback we receive makes it all worth it.

We thought we should share a few with you to enjoy…………

…………and yes of coaches did join in for a boogie and some gymnastics too!

The displays seem so long ago and Christmas increasingly close. So what’s a better way to celebrate the success of the shows, let our hair down and have some fun, than a Gym Christmas Party? A last chance for a get together before the end of term and before the competition season starts up again. Our fundraising team do a lot behind the scenes to support the club and fundraisers such as our Christmas parties are an easy and fun way to raise money. Here are a few pics from last weekend.

There is just enough time left to thank you all for an incredible December. Everyone who helped make the displays possible, the parents, friends and carers for driving the gymnasts and being our amazing audience. Our coaches, staff and volunteers who gave their time and efforts. More importantly the gymnasts who have worked so incredibly hard and delivered an amazing show. Each and every routine was well worth the hard work!

From all of us at Spelthorne Gymnastics, we would like to wish you all a very Happy and Healthy Christmas and a Brighter New Year.

xoxo
